Lewes District CAN

Welcome to Lewes District Community Action Network (LD CAN)!

Lewes District Community Action Network (LD CAN) exists to support the Voluntary, Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) sector across Lewes District — helping local groups to thrive

Whether you’re a small grassroots organisation, a local charity, or a social enterprise, LD CAN is here to help you grow, connect with others, and work together to make a real difference in our communities.

We offer support through regular updates, networking opportunities, funding opportunities & shared resources, and links to local health and care services.

Join the LD CAN network to stay informed, get involved, and be part of a stronger, more connected Lewes District.

LD CAN follows the national framework set by NAVCA, focusing on four key areas to support voluntary, community and social enterprise (VCSE) groups across Lewes District:

  1. Leadership and Advocacy

We support community leaders and organisations across Lewes District to have a stronger voice in local decision-making and policy development. We work to ensure that underrepresented groups are empowered to influence change, and that public sector partners understand and value the strengths and knowledge within our communities.

  1. Partnerships and Collaboration

We bring people together. By building strong relationships between local VCSE groups, public sector teams and other partners, we help create joined-up approaches to community support. Whether it’s through network meetings, shared projects, or responding to local challenges, we believe collaboration leads to better outcomes for everyone.

  1. Capacity Building

We know that when local organisations are well-supported, and have in-built resilience and suitability, communities benefit now and in the future. LD CAN offers practical help — from training and resources to advice and signposting — to help groups grow, adapt, and deliver great work. Whether you’re just starting out or looking to expand, we’re here to help build confidence and capacity.

  1. Volunteering

Volunteers are at the heart of community action in Lewes District. We promote and support volunteering across Lewes District, helping people to take positive action in their communities.
