Sunflower Lanyard Scheme

We are delighted to announce that we are the distributor in Hailsham for the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme. Wealden Dementia Action Alliance has teamed up with Wealden District Council to facilitate a project that helps people with a hidden disability in Wealden feel more confident going into the community again.

A hidden disability that may be difficult for others to recognise or understand, but can make daily life more challenging for those who have one. A hidden disability can include:

  • sensory loss, including difficulty seeing or hearing
  • a physical disability that may not be obvious
  • autism
  • a learning disability
  • dementia including Alzheimer’s disease
  • Anxiety or any other mental health condition.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard project is designed to help those in Hailsham and nationally who have disabilities that are not immediately obvious to others. Wearing the sunflower lanyard discreetly indicates to others, including shop workers, members of the community, colleagues and health professionals that additional support, help or a little more time may be needed.

You can get a lanyard free of charge for yourself, a family member or friend with a hidden disability at SCDA, Hailsham Community Hub. Just pop in during opening hours or drop us a message or email arranging a time to collect.
