Up to 20 hours per week, (4 days a week)

During the Summer school holiday

Based in Newhaven

Rate of Pay: Rate 1 – 18-20’s £9.63 per hour, Rate 2 – Over 21’s £13.06 per hour

SCDA runs Holiday Activities and Food (HAF) programme during the school holidays. Serving up a menu of different activities both indoors and out with an emphasis on healthy food and being active. Examples of these activities include circus skills, table tennis, street dance, drama workshops, bike skills, forest & beach school, science workshops, team sports, board games, arts & crafts and cooking activities. We also take the children on outings by coach to a variety of different venues.

We are recruiting for Playworkers to come and join our existing experienced team, delivering summer HAF with SCDA. We’re ideally looking for 2 weeks of cover at 20 hours per week, with a working pattern of Monday – Thurs and we would like to retain you as bank staff for HAF opportunities that may come up over the year.

The activities are aimed at children / young people aged between 7 – 11 years and our Playworkers will help to maintain a safe, creative, and stimulating environment. We want every child to feel welcome and valued.

Ideal candidates will have experience of working as part of a team within a childcare setting/after school club/school/youth club.  Childcare or play work qualifications are desirable or significant previous experience in this area. Paediatric First Aid and a knowledge of safeguarding is also beneficial – although training is provided.

This role would suit those working in schools as Teaching Assistants / Individual Needs Assistants who would like some additional work during the school holidays! Individuals working with SEN children is an advantage.

Ultimately, we are looking for people who enjoy, and are confident working with children and young people, understand their varying needs and want to help them have fun during the school holidays.

The post is subject to an enhanced DBS check, and being a car owner and driver is preferred but not essential.
