Counselling Coordinator – Affordable Counselling Service and Youth Counselling Service

20 hrs per week. Based Newhaven with some travel to outreach delivery locations across E. Sussex

Salary £27,041 per annum pro rata – according to post qualifying experience and qualification requirements

SCDA’s Affordable Counselling is a BACP accredited counselling service which aims to provide 1-1 counselling on an Affordable basis to clients across the East Sussex area.  The Youth Counselling Service offers 1:1 counselling to individuals aged 11 to 18.  The Counsellors are volunteers who are either undertaking their counsellor qualification, or have recently completed training and are continuing to develop their practice. The counselling coordinator will ensure services are delivered in accordance with appropriate clinical standards and protocols.

With at least two years post qualifying experience in assessing needs, and holding appropriate professional qualification; you will be responsible for the coordination of the volunteer counsellors who deliver the services, offering appropriate progression opportunities to further develop their expertise and practice. You will also line manage the SCDA employee who supports the administration of counselling provision.

Holding responsibility for ensuring the smooth running of Affordable Counselling across delivery venues in Hailsham, Eastbourne, Lewes & Newhaven, and the Youth Service across Newhaven and Lewes, you will be part of the development of the service, fostering integrated working and contributing to fundraising opportunities.

Appropriately qualified, BACP accredited or willing to work towards, and with a sound understanding and experience of counselling/psychotherapy and the issues that may arise within an organisational setting, you will have clinical responsibility for SCDA’s Counselling Services, and be accountable for the practice of counsellors and volunteer counsellors within the Service, particularly in relation to clinical judgements about risk.

The role requires excellent communication, professional and personal ethics and boundaries and the ability to work effectively with vulnerable people.  Post subject to DBS at enhanced level.
