We are delighted to announce that we are the distributor in Hailsham for the Sunflower Lanyard Scheme. Wealden Dementia Action Alliance has teamed up with Wealden District Council to support a project to help people in Wealden feel more confident going into the community again. The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower project helps those who have disabilities that are not immediately obvious to others. Wearing the sunflower lanyard discreetly indicates to others, including shop workers, members of the community, colleagues and health professionals that additional support, help or a little more time may be needed.
You can get a lanyard free of charge for yourself, a family member or friend with a hidden disability at SCDA, Hailsham Community Hub. Alternatively, please call Wealden District Council Customer Services on 01323 443 322 for further details.

Come and join our members at the Community Allotment Project in Battle Road, Hailsham
Our community allotment project started in April 2019 by securing a 5 rod plot (from Hailsham Town Council) of very overgrown weeds! With hard work from our great band of members and local donations of planters and tools, it’s really taking shape. This year we’ve grown potatoes, runner beans, French beans, strawberries, courgettes and much more. A ‘name the plot’ community competition gave our plot a name ‘Seeds & Weeds’. Come along and join us – learn new skills, enjoy learning about plants, fruit and vegetables, harvesting home grown organic produce to take home as well as making new friends.
Open work session is Thursday mornings 10.00 – 12.00. To adhere to Government guidelines booking is essential as spaces are limited.
If you would like to get involved, book on to an open work session or find out more please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01323 440548 / 07920 526 226.
Join Together – Befriending for lonely or isolated people in and around Hailsham
Loneliness can be a problem for many of us, especially if we are new to a community or when we get older. This project aims to reduce loneliness and social isolation in our communities by bringing people together and looking for opportunities to help individuals strengthen their social networks and make new friends.
While we deal with Covid-19 and adhere to government guidelines loneliness and social isolation becomes even more critical to many community members. To help address this SCDA have put in place a temporary telephone befriending service for anyone who wants to just have a chat or be in regular contact with one of our trained volunteers. For anyone interested in being supported or volunteer please call Julie on 07920 526226 or Michelle on 07341 563649. Alternatively please email email@example.com
