Who are Sussex Community Development Association (SCDA)?
We strengthen local communities by providing a range of local services to people in need across East Sussex including a nursery, youth centre, food bank, community centres, supporting health and well-being and, offering information & helping people back into work. We need Trustees who can support our Governance and particularly seek people who have:
finance and commercial skills; business and social enterprise; marketing and promotions and charitable fundraising. Specific awareness of issues relating to health and wellbeing and the needs of disadvantaged communities would be welcomed.
SCDA is looking for effective people to join its Board of Trustees in realising our ambitious goals to make a difference in local communities and for local people. SCDA Trustees are key to helping make this happen.

Community Supermarket Volunteer
Newhaven Community Supermarket is a new project opening at Denton Island Community Centre in May 2021. Are you a Newhaven resident who wants to give something back to your community? Are you passionate about reducing food waste and ending hunger?
As a volunteer at Newhaven Community Supermarket you will be a welcoming and friendly asset to our team. Your main responsibilities will be to organise food donations, support clients to make food choices and to keep the space looking good. Some cash handling may also be involved. This role requires a commitment of around four hours per week, although this may vary. You must be available on Mondays from May onwards. Volunteer Cooking Leader
Do you have love food and motivating a team? Are you passionate about reducing food waste and cooking creatively?
As a volunteer cooking leader you will lead a weekly cookery session, plan recipes, lead on food prep and cooking and ensure that meals are packaged, frozen and ready to deliver as part of our emergency food parcels. Strength in Numbers Information Volunteers
Our Advice and Inclusion Programme is looking for Strength in Numbers Project Volunteers, based in Newhaven. Regular updates from clients and ongoing feedback and evaluation of the service is key to its success. Using feedback and evaluation tools you will contact previous clients which will help shape the service in the future. You will also communicate with current clients to gain information and updates on their situation.
This is a great opportunity to gain volunteering experience from home during Covid-19 restrictions. If you enjoy communicating with others, working as part of a team and would like to be part of a service that supports large numbers within the community this could be the role for you. We are looking for Social Media Volunteers to work with us to create content and increase our online presence in order to raise the profile of the Advice and Inclusion Service and reach more people within the community.
