Sussex Community Development Association (SCDA), runs a range of services aimed at supporting and empowering those most in need in our communities.  Services include initiatives addressing the economic, environmental, cultural and community needs of East Sussex. We are looking for an experienced volunteer coordinator to join our friendly Advice & Inclusion team on a fixed term basis to cover a period of maternity leave.

The main aim of our Specialist Volunteer Co-ordinator role is to recruit and train specialist volunteers to increase capacity in the team around giving information and navigating/signposting service users.

The idea candidate will be experienced volunteer co-ordinator who is responsible for the targeted recruitment, coordination, direction and support to a group of Information volunteers who will provide information & navigation support at Newhaven’s Advice & Information Hub at the Denton Island Community Centre.

With responsibility for designing and delivering appropriate training to these volunteers; and organising other volunteer training where appropriate e.g. through the CAB – ensuring that Information volunteers remain boundaried in their work and deliver information and navigation/signposting at an appropriate level at all times. You will assess and check that the quality of information and navigation support offered to service users and clients by the volunteers under your direction is consistent, accurate and of a high quality.

The role is based in Newhaven with some travel across E. Sussex, car drivers and owners preferred as several locations are rural and not served well by public transport. Posts are subject to DBS check.

Covid-19 conditions

Due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak and following current government guidance on social distancing, interviews for this role will take place via video call. Additionally, the successful applicant will be supported and equipped to work from home on a temporary basis where restrictions on non-essential travel are in place.
