The Seahaven foodbank provides an emergency food parcel service for individuals and families in times of crisis. These are generally people who suddenly find themselves facing poverty and hunger due to loss of salary, change in benefits, unexpected large bills, illness or family breakdown. The foodbank provides food parcels to cover the immediate crisis or to give support in the intervening period before statutory agencies can begin on-going longer term assistance.
The Foodbank Coordinator will continue to develop the service, coordinating the essential day to day running and delivery of the Seahaven foodbank provision within Newhaven supported by volunteers, which includes picking, packing, sorting and driving of food parcels around the area. The role requires a level of physical fitness to handle the movement of food, safe lifting and handling training will be provided, and essential to this role is experience of managing people/volunteers and an ability to work with people from disadvantaged, marginalised or socially excluded backgrounds.
Our services have adapted to meet needs during the Covid19 pandemic and will have to be flexible to meet future changes in community needs. This will include enhancing existing partnerships to ensure a sustainable service and throughput of donations required during these challenging times, and for the future. With responsibility for assisting in reporting to funders and management, this post will contribute to ongoing fundraising for future service sustainability and innovation, meaning you will need both excellent organisational skills, and be able to manage a busy and varied workload.
As an SCDA employee you will be an ambassador for the service and demonstrate sensitivity to the aims of the project and the organisation as a whole.

Based in Newhaven with travel across E. Sussex, car driver and owner preferred as many locations are rural and not served well by public transport. Post subject to DBS check.
